“Selfie” an exhibition of self-portraits

OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS!

The Schelfhaudt Gallery has a special opportunity for artists to present their artwork. Frida Kahlo During her lifetime, Frida Kahlo created some 200 paintings, 55 of which are self-portraits. When asked why she painted so many self- portraits, Frida replied: “Because I am so often alone…because I am the subject I know best.” Pablo Picasso asked the question, “Are we to paint what’s on the face, what’s inside the face, or what’s behind it? This proposal asks the same the question and asks the participant submits his or her self-portrait to email, along with a brief bio, to: selfieselfportrait@gmail.com.

SUBMISSION CHECKLIST:
1. E-mail one to two pieces per artist, self-portrait, no photography, overall size: small to medium (maximum 18×24).
2. Brief bio (75 words or less)
3. Deadline: must be received by January 31, 2017. No entry fee for submission.

Important: all submission forms must be received by January 31st, 2017.
The drop of the artwork and installation will be on Saturday, Feb. 4th between 11am- 2pm.

Please note that submissions will be limited to two pieces per artist, and overall size will be taken into consideration for the show. Participation will be first-come-first-served and the number of artists will be limited. The show will take place in the beautiful Schelfhaudt Gallery in University of Bridgeport’s Arnold Bernhard Center: 84 Iranistan Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
There is free parking available in the parking lot and on the street.

OPENING RECEPTION

Please join us on Friday, Feb. 10th, 2017 from 5:00-7:30pm for a wine and cheese reception to celebrate the show!
Please tell family, friends, and guests are welcome!
Free to attend but kindly RSVP.
The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibition runs through April 8th, 2017.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 12 to 4 p.m.

Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD) on the University of Bridgeport campus is located in the Arnold Bernhard Center (ABC), 84 Iranistan Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604. Off street parking is available.
